Summary

  • Often in Planhat, you'll look at tables of data - this can be temporary views in the Data Explorer, or more permanent Pages

  • It's really easy for you to choose which columns (corresponding to properties such as "CSM Score", "ARR" or "Owner") are shown, and in which order, including which are pinned

  • It's also simple to sort the rows of your data table by your choice of column/property, in either ascending or descending order

  • In Data Explorer, Data Table Pages or Grouped List Pages, you access these settings via the button with a slider icon

Introduction

Within Planhat, you will often be viewing data arranged as an interactive, live table.

You'll see this in a number of places within Planhat:

  • In Data Table and Grouped List Pages

  • In Data Table Widgets within Presentation or Dashboard Pages

Within these tables, you can easily configure which columns (properties) are shown, and in which order.

It's also simple to sort the rows by a column/property of your choosing, and choose whether the data is in ascending or descending order.

Whether you're in Dataset in Data Explorer, or looking at a Data Table or Grouped List Page, you set your column and sort preferences via this slider icon:

πŸ“Œ Important to note

When editing a Data Table Widget (as opposed to a Data Table Page), you configure your column preferences and sort order via the main Widget edit menu rather than by clicking a slider icon, and this is outside the scope of this article. However, you'll still use the same column configuration modal as described in the instructions below.

Choosing which columns are shown, and in which order

Columns correspond to properties (fields, Metrics or Success Units) on the data model that the table has been built for.

  1. To change which properties are showing as columns, click on the slider icon, and select the option for "Columns" at the top

This "Manage Table" modal will open up:

Click the image to view it enlarged

  2. You can add or remove columns via the checkboxes on the left-hand side - simple!

    • Find specific properties more quickly by using the search box ...

    • ... and/or click on your chosen property type to filter by that category

      • "System" properties are default fields in Planhat

      • You can select (i.e. filter by) multiple property types at once if you wish

  3. Choose the column order by dragging and dropping the properties on the right-hand side. Simply click and hold the symbol of 6 dots next to a property/column to be able to move it up or down

  4. To move a column into the "Pinned columns" section, put your mouse over a property name to see the pin symbol to the right, and then click on the pin

    • A pinned column is locked to the left-hand side of your table, and always visible even when you scroll right

    • You can then drag and drop columns within the "Pinned columns" section to change the order

    • To unpin a column, simply click on the orange pin icon next to it

  5. Click the "Apply" button in the bottom right of the modal to apply your configuration

Configuring the sort order

If you would like to sort the rows in your data table, there are two steps:

  1. Choose which property to sort by:

    • Click on the slider icon, select "Sort by", and select a suitable property (column) to sort your data by

    • For example, this could be "ARR"

    • πŸš€ Tip: Use the search box to find your chosen property more quickly

  2. Change between ascending and descending order if desired:

    • You can do this by clicking on the slider icon, selecting "Sort options", and then choosing either "Ascending" or "Descending"

    • Or, click on the arrow next to the relevant column heading (example shown below) to change direction

    • For example, you might want to sort by ARR descending, so your biggest Companies are shown at the top
