Introduction
"Notifications" is a key feature within your "Home" in upgraded Planhat.
Notifications help you to be more data-driven and proactive. They bring events to your attention as they happen, so you can respond quickly to changes in data - both positive and negative signs.
Like pretty much everything else in upgraded Planhat, notifications are highly customizable. We provide you with a whole library of "Notification Templates" that you can choose from and edit to suit you perfectly. So flexible and so powerful!
Once you've configured what you'd like to be notified about, you'll see your incoming notifications within "Notifications" in your Home screen, as well as Slack/email/desktop notifications if you enable them. In Notifications, can see a short-form notification summary at a glance, and then click in to view more details if you'd like further information, with the option to search through your notification history too.
π Planhat versions
If you used the older version of Planhat (app.planhat.com), notifications were within the Actions Module. In upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com), notifications have been separated out from Tasks (which live under Calendar) for even easier access and visibility.
Viewing notifications within Planhat
"Notifications" is part of your Home screen. It's pinned as default, although if you unpin it, it will be available under "... More".
When you get a new (unread) notification within Planhat, you'll see a red dot next to the "Notifications" bell symbol, together with the number of notifications in red, like so:
Whether you have a new notification or not, you can view your notifications in Planhat in two ways.
Firstly, you can put your mouse over "Notifications", and you'll see a small panel appear: a concise view of your most recent notifications, like in the example shown below. This is a quick and easy way to keep up to date with your notification "headlines", e.g. if you are in the middle of something else.
If you would like to see further details of these notifications, or view older notifications, you can then click "Show all" (shown in the screenshot above) to open up an expanded notifications view, like in the example below.

As you can see in the screenshot above, there's a "Find in view..." search box in the top right. Being able to search through (filter) your notification history is super useful for when you start to have more notifications over time. For example, you could search for all notifications related to a specific Company.
Configuring your notification settings
Where to configure your notifications
You set your notification preferences in upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com) within your User Profile. There are a few different ways to get to this.
You can directly access your notification settings from "Notifications" in your Home - either the short-form panel or the full notifications. In both cases, you'll see the slider icon in the top right (pictured below) - click this and you'll jump directly to the "Notifications" tab of your User Profile.

Here's an example of a User Profile with the Notifications tab selected:

π Important to note
If clicking the slider icon takes you to a different Notifications menu (shown below), these are legacy notification settings, and your tenant will be updated in future. You can still set some notifications here, and/or you can navigate to your User Profile to set the new notifications, following the instructions next in the article.
You can also navigate to your User Profile by clicking on your name/initial/photo in the top right of your tenant, clicking on "Profile", and then selecting the "Notifications" tab.
Channel preferences
At the top of the Notifications tab, you can choose how you would like to receive your notifications, in addition to within Planhat. Your options are:
Desktop notifications
Email notifications
Slack notifications
You can enable/disable any combination of these via the toggle switches - it's very customizable. Set your preferences so you receive the alerts in the way(s) that suit you best.
Here's an example of a notification email:
If you click the toggle switch to enable Slack notifications, you'll see a dropdown box appear for you to select a Slack channel, and a tooltip box with further instructions - both pictured below.
For more details on setting up notifications via Slack, you can refer to this article. (The referenced article was written for the older version of Planhat (app.planhat.com), so the information on where notifications are in Planhat is now out of date, but the Slack information is correct. The article will be updated in future.)
Notification rules
Below the channel preferences, you'll see your notification rules. These define what you are notified about. Here you can really personalize your notifications - you can choose precisely when you are notified.
To add a new notification, click "+ Add notification". This opens up a modal showing you a library of notifications to choose from.
Click the image to view it enlarged
You can use the categories on the left-hand side, or the search box in the top right, to find a particular notification more quickly.
Once you click on a template, you can use the dropdown menus to customize it. For example, if this is the template ...
... then you could personalize it like so ...
... or like this ...
... and so on!
Once you've finished configuring a notification, click "Add notification" to save/apply it.
Then simply repeat these steps if you would like to create more notification rules.
You can easily modify or disable an existing notification rule if desired.
