Introduction

Once you've compiled all your customer/prospect data in Planhat, you need to visualize and analyze it, so you can identify patterns and anomalies, risks and opportunities, and so on. You'll also want to share your insights with your colleagues. Pages enable you to do all this. Pages are highly customizable, so you can create your own professional-looking reports to suit your organization, without being limited to basic set layouts. You can even create personalized slide deck templates that display live data.

If you used the previous Planhat platform (app.planhat.com), you will be familiar with Presentation and Canvas Page types:

  • Presentations - the data display is separated into individual slides, which you can present

  • Canvas - an infinite scroll, good for internal reporting

In upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com):

  • Presentation is still an available Page type

  • The Canvas Page type has been deprecated

  • The replacement to Canvas is Dashboard, which is also an infinite scroll, but now widgets (charts and images/text etc.) snap to a grid (see example image below)

    • The grid makes widget sizing and placement easier - you can align everything perfectly for a neat-looking Page

    • You should now use the Presentation Page type if you would like to layer widgets on top of each other, as widgets can't overlap in Dashboard Pages

  • There are many other Page types now available too

If you were previously using the original Planhat platform and are upgrading to ws.planhat.com, you can import and use old Pages you created previously, helping with a smooth transition. In this article, we will take you through how this works, and what you should be aware of.

How to add Pages from app.planhat.com to ws.planhat.com

There are a number of places you can access existing Pages in upgraded Planhat.

When you're designing a Section or a View, you can click "+ Add existing Page" to bring in a Page already created by your organization.

You can also view your tenant's Pages in Content Explorer. You can use the handy "Page type" filter to show specific Page types, e.g. Canvas Pages in particular.

In upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com), you can see if a Page is from the original platform (app.planhat.com) because we automatically add a tag to the end of the name: "- CI Page (old)". You can see this in the screenshot above. ("CI" stands for the Customer Intelligence Module in app.planhat.com.)

Once a Page is converted, this old version of the Page will be deleted, and you'll just have the new copy of the Page for upgraded Planhat, without this tag in its name.

If you click to open a Canvas Page, you'll see this modal:

Click the "Confirm" button to create a Dashboard from the original Canvas.

If the "Confirm" button is grayed out, you can mouse over it for a tooltip to see why. You need sufficient permissions for each Page - you may notice that you personally can open/convert some Pages but not others.

If you click on an old Presentation Page it will simply open - there isn't a modal like this.

Page conversions when opening app.planhat.com Pages in ws.planhat.com

To summarize:

  • Presentation Pages from the original platform (app.planhat.com) will still be Presentation Pages in upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com)

  • Canvas Pages from the original platform (app.planhat.com) will be converted into Dashboard Pages in upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com)

Data configuration and filters for both Presentation and Canvas Pages will be maintained.

There will be some slight differences in the styling options in ws.planhat.com v. app.planhat.com, which are outlined in the "style updates" section below.

Pages in an older (app.planhat.com) format within the upgraded platform can be identified by "- CI Page (old)" in the name, as mentioned above (and, of course, if it's a Canvas Page then it's from app.planhat.com). The import process will remove the original Page from upgraded Planhat and create a new, updated version of the Page, separate from the previous one. This means any changes made to the original Page in the earlier platform (app.planhat.com) afterwards will not sync to the new Page in upgraded Planhat - and vice versa.

Presentation Pages

Using Presentation Pages from the older platform in upgraded Planhat is straightforward, because this Page type exists in both Planhat versions.

If you open older Presentation Pages in upgraded Planhat, they will retain their structure and content, ensuring a seamless transition. All widget inputs and filters will be converted as-is, preserving the functionality of your Presentations.

Canvas Pages

Converting Canvas Pages to Dashboards involves a bit more complexity, but we've built an automated conversion system to handle most of the work. As we mentioned earlier, you'll see this modal when you go to add a Canvas Page:

Here are the key points about the process:

  • All your widgets (charts, tables, text and images etc.) and filters will be brought over automatically

  • In some cases, widgets may become scattered. You may need to spend a few minutes organizing them in the new grid layout

  • We attempt to retain the original size and positioning of widgets as closely as possible

  • Overlapping widgets from Canvas Pages will be redistributed in a non-overlapping manner in Dashboards, as you can't position widgets on top of each other in the grid

  • Empty text widgets will not be brought over from Canvas Pages

Style updates

To ensure your Pages look their best in upgraded Planhat, we've made some updates to styling. These apply to both Presentations and Canvases/Dashboards.

Palettes and coloring

All imported Pages/widgets in upgraded Planhat will automatically be set to use the default palette in your Planhat tenant. Pages/widgets can be edited to use different palettes once they're brought over.

All saved palettes will be brought over to upgraded Planhat.

Your color palettes can be viewed and edited in the "Settings" Global Tool for admins.

Border and drop shadow

In upgraded Planhat, we've simplified the border and drop shadow settings to make it easier for you to create visually appealing pages.

When importing/converting Pages from the original Planhat platform to upgraded Planhat, widget border and drop shadow settings will be applied in a manner most consistent with the original Page settings.

Original Planhat (app.planhat.com)

Upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com) - streamlined options

To apply drop shadow in upgraded Planhat, select "Tile" within the "Outline" dropdown menu.
