Introduction
Financial data is - of course - very important in any organization. If you're a manager, you may need to monitor the performance of your team (e.g. EMEA or Enterprise); whereas if you're an individual contributor, you'll want to keep an eye on your portfolio and work on your forecasting; while if you're in Finance, you may be managing invoices and keeping track of payments received or overdue.
While there are many different Page types in upgraded Planhat where you can create and design a Page completely from scratch, including Dashboards and Presentation Pages where you can configure a wide range of charts displaying live data, financial data is a specialist area and we have pre-built some System Reports for particular use cases, with designs/functionality not available in other Page types. Even though these System Reports have pre-set designs, they are still interactive and customizable to an extent.
In this article, we will first consider these revenue System Reports as a whole, and then we'll take a deeper look at each of these reports (Page types) in turn.
π Planhat versions
If you used the original Planhat platform (app.planhat.com), you will be familiar with these revenue-related System Reports from the Revenue Module.
What are System Reports for revenue?
One category of pre-built Pages you can add in Planhat are System Reports. These are pre-configured reports that are specially designed by Planhat for particular scenarios, which aren't covered by one of the other Page types.
The available System Reports are related to revenue:
Revenue Base
Renewal Rate
Bookings
Renewals
Invoices
We will go through each of these in this article.
The screenshot below shows an example of a "Renewals" Page within a View in a Section.

Why use System Reports for revenue?
Revenue can be complicated, especially when it comes to SaaS subscriptions. How can you keep track of all your customers' licences and how they change over time - renew, upgrade, downgrade or churn? How can different audiences - for example, CS Team Leads, CSMs and the Finance team - get the information they need?
Fortunately, we have created a library of standard revenue reports, so you don't need to design them yourself. These pre-built reports make it easier for you to understand your revenue data and share insights related to it.
It's really useful to be able to add these different revenue System Reports as individual Pages. You could create a View, for example, with a Renewal Rate Page (tab) for Bob next to a Renewal Rate Page (tab) for Betty, so as a manager you can easily flick between them to review the portfolios of your different team members.
Or similarly, you could have adjacent Pages of the same revenue report set to filter on different teams/segments (e.g. SMB, Mid-Market and Enterprise).
π Planhat versions
This functionality is easier and more effective than having only a single copy of each revenue System Report and having to keep switching filters, as was the case in original Planhat (app.planhat.com)
Next in this article, we'll look at the use cases and benefits of each of the individual System Reports.
Revenue Base

What is the Revenue Base report?
The Revenue Base report gives you a trend of your MRR or ARR, showing both actual and forecasted revenue over time. What's more, if you use Planhat to forecast your Licenses and you're using Opportunities, you can even see the development of your book of business in the future.
π Planhat versions
This report was called "Recurring Base" in original Planhat (app.planhat.com).
Why use the Revenue Base report?
This report can be particularly useful for the Finance teams; and also for the leadership team when making decisions on where to invest in the business, as it allows them to base their decisions on data.
Renewal Rate

What is the Renewal Rate report?
The Renewal Rate report is a deep-dive into your recurring revenue, where you can analyze the Net Revenue Retention (NRR). You can see your recurring revenue broken down into renewals, churn, upgrades, and downgrades etc.
Why use the Revenue Rate report?
This report is particularly useful for CSM team leads, and individual CSMs, to review a portfolio (i.e. the Companies managed by a particular person, or team). You can review the past, or look into the future, viewing and forecasting whether your CSMs are hitting their targets.
Bookings

What is the Bookings report?
The Bookings report shows the total value of Licenses starting in a given time period, looking at both new business and renewals.
Why use the Bookings report?
This can be a useful view for Sales and CS teams to monitor trends in incoming contract values (sales and renewals).
Renewals

What is the Renewals report?
The Renewals report shows the renewals for each month - both past and future renewals. Forecasts can be manually entered into this report, which can feed into other reporting.
Why use the Renewals report?
This report is typically used by CSMs (filtering on their own portfolio) to review and forecast their upcoming renewals. It is also a very useful report for managers, as it helps them with capacity planning.
Invoices

What is the Invoices report?
It's pretty self-explanatory from the name! The Invoices report enables you to have an overview of Invoices over time - paid, overdue and "not yet due" Invoices.
Why use the Invoices report?
This report is particularly important for the Finance team to have an understanding on the status and overall value of Invoices month-by-month. It can also be useful for CSMs to understand the situation concerning their own portfolio.
