Summary
You can chat with Pi in a Session
Pi can find, read, create and update your Planhat records, answer questions from your organization's Pages/files/records, build Automations, and build live data displays called Artifacts
It only ever sees what you (as a User) can see: your Role permissions apply to every answer it gives

Introduction
Pi is Planhat OS's built-in, advanced, multi-purpose AI Agent.
You chat with Pi in Sessions. Pi automatically understands your data in Planhat, can answer questions about it, and can take actions in Planhat on your behalf.
In this article, we will summarize Pi's capabilities - and its limitations (at time of writing).
Note that Planhat OS contains other AI features in addition to Pi - they will not be covered here.
📌 Definitions
"Session" - a place to collaborate in Planhat OS, with Pi and/or your colleagues
You "chat" within a Session. You may also sometimes hear a Session referred to as a chat
"Pi" - the advanced, multi-purpose AI Agent in Planhat OS
Planhat "data model" (also called simply "model") - how data is organized in Planhat; similar to the "objects" you may be familiar with from other tools. Examples of Planhat data models are Company, End User, Deal, and Line Item. This type of model is not to be confused with AI models, which are something different
"Record" - pieces of data within those data models. For example, for the Company model, records could be Dell or Apple; for the End User model, records could be Jamie Jones or Caroline Shearer
"Tenant" - your organization's copy of Planhat. You may also hear this referred to as a workspace or environment
What Pi can see/access
Your Planhat records - every data model you have permission to view, including any custom models your organization has built. Pi can search, filter, sort and count them
Your organization's own "Knowledge Base" (formerly called "Content Explorer") - the Pages that make up your tenant's Knowledge Base, so Pi can answer a question about your processes and quote your documentation
A specific Document Page - the full text of any Document Page you have access to
Files (attachments) - a file shared in the Session, or a file stored on a record you have access to
What Pi has been told to remember - preferences saved for you, your team, your Role, or your whole tenant, in the form of "Memory"
"Skills" - saved ways of working, such as a set procedure for preparing a customer meeting, which Pi loads before starting that kind of task
The Planhat Help Center - the collection of instructional articles published by Planhat at help.planhat.com
Pi respects Role permissions, including portfolio permissions
Every time Pi looks something up for you, your User Role permissions are applied - this encompasses:
This means that Pi cannot show you a record you wouldn't be able to open yourself in Planhat, it cannot show you an account (Company) outside your portfolio, and it cannot read a file attached to a record you don't have access to.
If you and a colleague ask Pi the same question, you will each get an answer scoped to your own access.
Pi also abides by Pi Data Access, the set of model permissions an administrator has set up for Pi.
What Pi does well
Finding records - filtering on an owner, a status, a date or a value, across any model you can see. Counting records, sorting them, and paging through more of them when you ask
Reading a record - reporting the field values on a specific record you point it at
Creating and updating records - one at a time, after checking which fields the model has
Answering from your tenant's Knowledge Base - finding the relevant passage in your tenant's Pages (or files), and telling you where it came from
Answering questions about Planhat features - the Planhat Help Center is included, to give you an understanding of how Planhat works
Building an Automation - describe what you want in plain English; Pi can build a new Automation, or edit an existing Automation
Building an Artifact - charts, tables and cards, saved as a live Page you can share with others. An Artifact loads live as it's viewed, so data doesn't go stale
Being honest about what it doesn't know - Pi will not state a value from your Planhat data unless it has actually looked it up, and it will tell you when it can't find something rather than filling the gap
What Pi can't do at this time
📌 Important to note
Additional functionality is being added to Pi very frequently, so the list below is likely to change over time.
Understand metric trends over time - Pi sees current metrics, rather than the entire time-series.
Search across full text fields of multiple records. When searching across records, Pi reads the first 200 characters of each field. Once it's constrained to 1 record, Pi can look at the entire text field
Access to Page History views
Draft or send email on behalf of a user
Look anything up outside of Planhat - Pi cannot search the web, at time of writing
Delete anything. When you chat to Pi, it never deletes a record - this is by design. If you ask it to, Pi gives you a link to the record so you can open it and delete it yourself. Pi is also prevented from imitating a delete by clearing out a record's fields
