Introduction
In Planhat, you can create Pages (which can be Data Tables, Dashboards, and many other types) and arrange them in Sections (such as a "Key Initiatives" Section, a "Customer Success Day-To-Day" Section, or a "Customer Segments" Section, and so on). This is a way you can organize, display and act on your customer/prospect data; and it's a way that your Planhat tenant can be customized to suit your specific business.
Sections can be:
Created by an admin and pinned to your Home via Home Templates (previously called User Personas) - this is a form of "top down" personalization
Created by you and kept as a private Section just for you - this is an example of "bottom up" personalization
Created by you and shared with your teammates, or created by your colleagues and shared with you, with the option to "promote" Sections - a type of personalization in between the two
(Notes: This is not an exhaustive list of customization examples. As well as in your Home, you can also access content via Context Explorer.)
This article will focus on "promoting" Sections. This is a way you can push Sections to the Home screens of your choice of Planhat Users in your tenant, with a little green "New" label, and your choice of message to describe the content or request action. Recipients can then view the content, and choose to keep the Section in their Home or not.
Your promotion can have an expiry period. It's great for bringing people's attention to new Sections/Pages you have created - e.g. for a new project, new initiative or new set of resources.
How to promote a Section
Firstly, we're going to take a look at how to promote a Section.
Click "Promote Section"
This needs to be a Section that has been shared with at least one other Planhat User (for you to be able to promote the Section to). This could be individual named Users, or everyone in your tenant if you've given access that way. You can read more about the different sharing options, and how to use them, in our separate article here.
Put your mouse over the Section name/icon so the ellipsis ("More") symbol appears. Click on the ellipsis, and then "Promote Section".
π Important to note
If "Promote Section" is not an available option - is grayed out like in the screenshot below - then mouse over the "i" for a tooltip with further information.
It's not possible to promote a Section if it's not shared with anyone, so make sure you click "Edit Section" and share it with the relevant people first. (You may need to refresh your window to get the new sharing to apply.)
Clicking "Promote Section" will open up the modal shown below for you to complete.
Audience
The next step is to fill in the "Audience" box at the top.
Who you can promote the Section to is limited by who the Section is shared with. You don't have to promote it to everyone it's shared with, but you can't promote it to someone it's not shared with.
For example, if the Section is shared with everyone in your Planhat tenant:
.... then you can choose from any User/Team to promote the Section to:
But, at the other end of the scale, if your Section is shared with one other User:
... then you would only be able to promote the Section to that one User:
When you've selected your choice of User(s)/Team(s), make sure you click the orange "Add" button to confirm.
Your selection will then display under "People and teams to promote to":
Expiry Date
The next step is to select an (optional) expiry date for the promotion.
The default is "infinity", i.e. it doesn't expire, as shown in the image below. Click on the infinity symbol if you'd like to select an expiry date.
This will open up a calendar date picker. Any selected date will shown in orange in the calendar. You can also click "Clear" if you would like to remove the date option and go back to infinity (i.e. not expiring).
Any date selected will show under "Expiry Date" in the "Promote Section" modal, like in the screenshot above. Simply click on the date here if you would like to open up the calendar again to make changes.
Note
The "Note" box is used to write a message that will accompany your promoted Section. This can be a "call to action", or a description of the content. For example, you could say "Check out these new resources!" We'll show you what this looks like from the recipient's perspective later in this article.
Promote
Finally, when you've completed the form and you're ready to go, press the orange "Promote" button in the bottom right. All done!
Right, let's see what it looks like from the perspective of the recipient.
Viewing Sections promoted to you
Promoted Sections will show in your Home - in the left-hand sidebar, with your other Sections.
You can put your mouse over the Section name/icon to see the green "New" banner that denotes it's promoted:
If you then put your mouse specifically over where it says "New":
You can see the message that the promoter wrote in "Note"
You can also see two options: "Keep" and "Hide"
If you select "Keep", the "New" flag disappears, and it's confirmed as one of your Sections in Home. Note that you can keep it in Home initially, and then remove it from your Home later on.
If you press "Hide", it will be removed from your sidebar. However, you can still access it via Content Explorer, if you want to view and potentially add it later on.
π Tip
If the Section was shared with you as a named User, and so it shows in Content Explorer under "Shared with me", there you will also see the same "New" flag and options if you mouse over it.
