Summary
Upgraded Planhat has "Federated Search", which means it compiles and searches all sorts of data from across your Planhat tenant. Rather than only being able to search for limited types of items, such as Company names, you can search for more general terms such as "Onboarding", and see related Workspaces, Workflows, Metrics, Pages and more
When you initially type in the Federated Search box, you'll see the most relevant results, but you can press "enter" to view the complete results
You can also paste URLs for other parts of your Planhat tenant into the Search box to jump to them instantly
Federated Search also houses some other tools, including the ability to manually import data

Introduction
Search might sound like a basic, everyday feature - but Search in Planhat is super-charged! π It's incredibly powerful, but still very intuitive and easy to use.
Rather than the Search only including a limited set of data, everything in Planhat is indexed and available in Federated Search! You can search for any record within your tenant - so, for example, you can search for the process/concept of "onboarding", and see all the Workflows, Pages, Conversations, Workspaces, Metrics and so on that mention onboarding.
And if you search for a specific Company, as well as seeing the Company itself in the search results, you will also see other data related to it. For example, this could be Issues, Attachments, Workflows, etc.
π Planhat versions
If you used the original version of Planhat (app.planhat.com), Search in upgraded Planhat (ws.planhat.com) is now much broader - whereas previously you could search for a Company or End User, now you can search for a much wider selection of components within your tenant.
Within the Search box, you can additionally access various tools (such as the ability to add/import data), and even jump quickly to other URLs within your Planhat tenant! We'll talk you through these options in this article.
Where to find Federated Search
While there are many different parts of Planhat where you can search (often called "Find in view..."), in this article we are focusing on the main Federated Search.
This is a tenant-level feature, displayed in the center of the top gray bar in your Planhat tenant, regardless of what feature/data within Planhat you have navigated to.
It shows a magnifying glass, together with the text "Search [your Planhat tenant name]".
Two types of searches - "relevant" and "complete"
When you first start typing into the Federated Search box, you'll get results right away, without even having to press enter (return) on your keyboard - super speedy!
The initial results are focused, and based on what's likely to be most relevant to you, considering your portfolio and your relationship to records
If you can't find what you want in the "relevant search results", press enter to see the complete search results
Shortcuts and tools within Federated Search
When you first click into the Search box, you'll see some helpful shortcuts without even needing to type/search anything!
Firstly, at the top, are records that you have recently looked at. This is really useful, because if you came to the Search box to navigate to one of these again, which is quite likely, you don't even have to search - it's already there for you!
π Tip
A similar feature is History - but that is a place you can also view the features (e.g. Calendar or App Center) that you have been looking at in Planhat, rather than focusing on records/files.
Underneath this (just scroll down), you will see a series of useful tools:
Here you can easily add a new Company, End User, User (of Planhat - i.e. your colleagues), Task, Conversation or Opportunity
You can bulk import multiple records of your choice of data model using the "Import" tool
You can select a model from the dropdown menu in the top right, and click to download the relevant spreadsheet template file
Then upload your file to manually import your data
Access "Logs Explorer" (shown below), and "Planhat Code"
Click the image to view it enlarged
π Tip
In addition to manually adding data records (e.g. Companies and End Users) via Federated Search, you can also add records in upgraded Planhat via the Data Explorer, and in relevant Pages.
π Tip
As well as manually adding individual data records or uploading data via a spreadsheet, as mentioned here, remember that there are other ways to get data into Planhat, such as automatically syncing in from an integration.
Opening Planhat links via the Federated Search box
Another feature of the Federated Search box in Planhat is opening Planhat links - that is, navigating to another part of your Planhat tenant by pasting its URL into the Federated Search box. This makes a fast process even faster!
Imagine you have your Planhat tenant already open, and a colleague sends you a URL to a different part of your tenant - for example, a specific Page, or Company, or Issue etc. You could, of course, enter this into your browser - but that could take a second or two to load.
If, instead, you paste the URL into the Federated Search box within Planhat, your navigation is near-instant, as the browser doesn't need to load the whole of the tenant. You don't even have to press "enter" - it will immediately jump to the other part of Planhat.
